Carinthia has a new soccer legionnaire! Florian Hangl will don the Augsburg kit from January 7, 2023. The 15-year-old midfielder from the WAC Academy signed a two-and-a-half-year contract (with an option for two more) with the German Bundesliga club.

Where the Klagenfurt native trains for the time being in the U16. “But I’m not allowed to play until I’m 16 – that is, from April,” explains the HAK-Klagenfurt student, who will live in boarding school in Augsburg and later also graduate from high school there.

WAC offered young professional contract
How the switch came about? “I was watched five times by a scout – also in the U15 national team. Then they contacted me, I’m mega happy that it worked out,” says Flo, who recently trained with the WAC pros for two weeks and was also allowed to play 17 minutes under head coach Robin Dutt in the recent test match against Celje. In addition, Flo could also have received a young professional contract with the “Wolves”. “But I always wanted to go abroad, so want to become a professional!”

For his big dream Hangl takes not only Kylian Mbappe as a role model. But also his father Christian Schrammel! The 50-year-old once played 57 Bundesliga games for Vorwärts Steyr as a left back and also played 162 times in the 2nd division (for FC Lustenau, Mattersburg, Leoben, Oberwart).

Meanwhile, Flo has matured under academy coach Stefan Friessnegger. “Florian is a leading player, was very dangerous as a threader with his 13 goals. I have a lot of confidence in him,” says his mentor.
