The World Cup in Qatar is already causing discussion in the run-up to the event. With its start on November 20, 2022, this format will take place for the first time towards the end of the year. The event overlaps, for example, with the opening of the Christmas market at Klagenfurt’s Neuer Platz. There, where people are usually invited to public viewing during European and World Cup soccer matches, this year mulled wine will be sipped, chestnuts eaten and “Jingle Bells” loudly intoned. And Klagenfurt’s mayor Christian Scheider (TK) puts domestic soccer fans on the sidelines: “The Christkindlmarkt should remain soccer-free!”
