Lower Austrian Sokol/Post celebrates first AVL Women win, TI-volley at top of table | Hypo Tirol, Waldviertel, Aich/Dob and Hartberg take three points in AVL Men
VB NÖ Sokol/Post picked up a win to open the second AVL Women round Saturday afternoon. The runner-up beat ATSC Kelag Wildcats Klagenfurt 3:1 (25:12, 25:22, 22:25, 25:21) to secure its first three points. At the start, Sokol/Post had lost out in Graz, while the Carinthians had won sovereignly against TSV Sparkasse Hartberg.

AVL Men: Hypo Tirol, Waldviertel, Aich/Dob and Hartberg take three points
The newly formed Hypo Tirol volleyball team also took the full points in its second AVL Men season match, winning 3:1 (25:20, 25:27, 25:20, 25:21) at TJ Sokol V/Post SV Vienna on Saturday night to start the round. Thus, the Viennese still have to wait for a sense of achievement.
“Of course, we are happy to take the three points with us. However, today was not optimal. We played too subdued and passive in parts. That must not happen to us in Ried next week. But well, it’s three points,” summarized Hypo Tirol VT head coach Stefan Chrtiansky, who had to do without his Brazilian diagonal attacker Luan Weber in Vienna.
Defending champion Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel did not show any weakness in their home match against VBC TLC Weiz as they did a week ago in Klagenfurt. The Northmen celebrated a 3:0 (25:21, 25:20, 25:22) victory and are thus still without a set loss. “Against us, all teams are always particularly motivated, you saw that again today. It was above all a mental fight. The positive thing is that we were able to take the next three points,” reported diagonal attacker Jan-Philipp Krabel. Coach Zdenek Smejkal agreed: “I am happy that we were able to win, however, the team is not yet playing at the level I would like to see.”
Weiz coach Michael Murauer: had to do without newcomer Lorenz Rössl due to illness. “Of course, you noticed that. But you also have to recognize that Waldviertel is a class of its own, especially in the home arena. In any case, we are already looking forward to the return match,” said Murauer. Captain Daniel Brandstetter added: “We started well, but didn’t use our chances and also had weaker phases again and again. It’s a pity, a set win would have been possible today for sure.”
Runner-up Zadruga Aich/Dob was able to redeem itself for the opening defeat in Ried with a 3:0 (25:19, 26:24, 25:19) win over UVC Holding Graz in the JUFA Arena Bleiburg. Sports director Martin Micheu: “Of course it is positive that we were able to get the first points, but the performance was not satisfactory for a long time. Things only got better after the changes. Especially Arwin Kopschar showed an impeccable performance in the third set. We managed to save our strength for the Champions League second leg at Finnish champion Sastamala.”
Still without points is VBK kelag Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt. The Carinthians had to settle for a win in the Sportpark TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg 1:3 (22:25, 25:21, 16:25, 15:25) defeated. It was the first victory for the Styrians, who have prominently strengthened themselves in the summer with national team player Max Thaller.
The second round will be completed on Sunday with the duel between VCA Amstetten NÖ and UVC McDonald’s Ried.
