SK Rapid became the first club to advance to the quarterfinals of this year’s UNIQA ÖFB Cup. In the first game under interim coach Zoran Barisic, the Hütteldorfer celebrate a 4:1 victory at WSG Tirol
Much trouble had the three other Bundesliga teams in action this Cup evening. SK Austria Klagenfurt won late at FC Mohren Dornbirn 1913, SV Guntamatic Ried overturned a 0:2 interval deficit at second division leaders SV Horn with a last-minute goal. LASK, too, has to tremble until the last minute in Vienna-Floridsdorf before its quarterfinal advancement against FAC Wien is fixed
For SK Rapid, the match, which is not played at Innsbruck’s Tivoli but at Wattens’ Gernot Langes Stadion, starts like a dream. Already in the sixth minute of the game, Marco Grüll manages to take the lead for the guests from Hütteldorf after Christoph Knasmüllner has done the groundwork. However, the WSG is not deterred by this. Before the break, the Tyroleans equalize. Thomas Sabitzer is successful in minute 37
Sabitzer almost turned the game around single-handedly, but he shoots a penalty over the goal in the 54th minute. Thus, a double strike at the beginning of the “Rapid quarter hour” decides the match. First, Roman Kerschbaum gives Rapid the lead again in the 75th minute, only seconds later center forward Ferdy Druijf decides the game (76th). U21 team player Bernhard Zimmermann finally provided the 4:1 final score in the 84th minute
WSG Tirol vs. SK Rapid 1:4 (1:1)
Goals: Sabitzer (37th) and Grüll (6th), Kerschbaum (75th), Druijf (76th), Zimmermann (84th) respectively
